Biological Treatment of Patients with both Psychotic and Mood Symptoms

Abstract

|
Psychotic and mood symptoms were often shown simultaneously as clinical features in many psychiatric patients. Psychotic patients with mood symptoms in clinical situations could be classified empirically：1) major depressive disorder with psychotic features, 2) bipolar I disorder, manic episode with psychotic features, 3) schizoaffective disorder, and 4) schizophrenia with mood symptoms. So far, antipsychotics, antidepressants, ECT, and mood stabilizers have been used for making the entangled symptoms be manageable and treatable. The symptomatic caricatures as well as diagnosis could be a reasonable guide to get the goal. Atypical antipsychotics might be regarded as choice drugs for patients with psychotic and mood symptoms. In sum, it should be necessary for clinicians to carefully employ the combination therapies with scientific evidences.
